Less Traffic, Less Business With ECU Students Gone

You might have noticed Greenville is a little less crowded since the majority of ECU students have left the city.

While the lack of students can mean less drivers on the roadways, it also means less money for businesses in the uptown area.

Elisa Pelas is among those who have noticed less congestion on the roadways. She says, "Since the college students go back home, some stick around but a lot go back out of state, I've noticed once they leave the roads are a lot clearer. "

While it may be better for residents, some businesses can't say the same, especially those that make a large portion of their revenue from ECU students.

Mike Allen, manager of Sup Dogs, says, "It certainly affects business, business declines a little bit. We share the same staffing woes and sales problems as any restaurant be it downtown, or across town."

Businesses we spoke to did say that sales will pick up slightly as summer classes begin.
