Incumbents and the newly elected representatives of the expanding majority of North Carolina House Republicans in the Legislature are gathering for the first time and mapping out their plans for the next two years.

The House Republican Caucus scheduled its first meeting since Election Day on Saturday morning at a Raleigh hotel. That's where they'll have a meal and discuss the legislative session that begins in January.

Unofficial results show Republicans now will hold 77 of the House's 120 seats, or an increase of nine seats compared to 2010.

The caucus will soon have to choose chamber leaders, but House GOP officials say no votes were expected Saturday, except perhaps to nominate Rep. Thom Tillis of Cornelius for another two years as speaker.
