Veterans and active duty military looking for civilian jobs had a chance to meet Wednesday with dozens of local employers looking to hire.

More than 35 businesses interviewed people in Jacksonville looking for careers outside the military.

Governor Beverly Perdue proclaimed this week "Hire A Veteran Week"--and this job fair made it easy for veterans like Roy Smith to see what jobs are available in the area. Smith says, "Looking for something steady because I'm working a lot of temporary jobs and that's just not paying the bills."

The Onlsow County Job Link center also opened the doors to the general public looking for work.

Employers were looking for firefighters, supervisors, highway patrol troopers, and border protection officers.
