The mother of a Jacksonville man accused of statutory rape involving a 15-year-old says her son had no idea the victim was underage.
Dawn Browning says her son, 22-year-old Garran Browning, is in the Onslow County jail under a $250,000 bond after Jacksonville Police arrested him for a sex crime that allegedly happened two-years ago.
She says the victim told her son that he was 18-years-old, and even showed her and Garran an I.D. stating that.
Browning says, "I've seen murderers in Onslow County with a lower bond than $250,000. I do think it's because of my sons sexual preference."
Dawn Browning has tried to get answers from police to help her son, who is set to graduate from Coastal Carolina Community College with a criminal justice degree in a few days.
Browning's next court appearance is set for May 30th.
NCIS is working on this case because an active duty Marine also has charges pending.
