Shriners and volunteers were dipping, frying and serving flounder, hush puppies and coleslaw in Jacksonville Friday. It was their annual fish fry that's been a tradition since 1953.

The fundraiser raises money for local kids to get care at non-profit Shriners Hospitals which treat children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate.

The plates went for $6, and by 1:00 p.m. Friday they had sold more than 1000 plates at one of their Jacksonville locations to raise at least $6,000 with 2 more hours to go. There are 22 Shriners Hospitals around the country. The closet one to our area is in Greenville, South Carolina.
