INVESTIGATORS: Two NC Methodist Church Fires Intentionally Set

Investigators are describing two Methodist church fires in a North Carolina Piedmont county as intentionally set.

Crews responded late Sunday night to a fire at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Stokesdale. That's four miles from where Gideon Grove United Methodist Church was destroyed in a blaze Saturday night.

Rockingham County Fire Marshal Robert Cardwell says he's certain the Mount Zion fire is arson and says the Gideon Grove fire likely is too. Police are seeking the public's help in the investigations.

Investigators say the Mount Zion fire began in the fellowship hall and was contained. Cardwell says the Gideon Grove fire began in the sanctuary. No one was hurt in either fire.

Gideon Grove members plan to rebuild but are now meeting at another church.
