Pitt County deputies say they've identified the remains found in the woods last month, that resulted in the arrest of three people.
59-year-old Anthony LaBarr of Ithaca, New York is the person the Medical Examiner's Office says died of blunt force trauma to the head and left in the woods off Galloway Road near Grimesland.
Investigators say LaBarr traveled from New York with Harold Drake and Nakijah Howard to Pitt County where Drake has family in Grifton.
Deputies say a short time later LaBarr was murdered. According to an affidavit, the Drake brothers confessed to killing LaBarr for money he got from a property sale, according to detectives.
The confession came from behind the jail walls, as all three were in the Pitt County Detention Center for breaking into a church. The trio remains in jail under a $2,000,000 bonds.
The Drakes' next court appearance in November 7th, while Howard returns to court on December 5th.
