Deputies with the Carteret County Sheriff's Office said a Newport police officer ran a check on Samuel O'Neal to find outstanding warrants and a violation of his Florida sentence from nearly 12 years ago.

Deputies said O'Neal plead guilty to engaging in a lewd and lascivious act on a child under the age of 16 on Lee County Florida in May of 2000. O'Neal was convicted and as such, has to register as a sex offender whenever he moves.

On Monday, 35-year-old O'Neal was charged with failing to change his address as a sex offender in addition to probation violation warrants and was placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $15,000.00 bond.
