Holiday Means Day Of Service For ECU Students

Dozens of East Carolina University students are taking this day off from classes to help those in need in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Students today are helping out today at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina in Greenville, Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park in Scotland Neck and A Time for Science in Grifton.

At the food bank, students are distributing food for the less fortunate.

The day of service enables students to become productive citizens while honoring Dr. King. "Our motto is to make it a day on and not a day off," Dennis McCunney, director of Volunteer and Service-Learning at ECU. "It is also an amazing opportunity to meet other students and learn about the diversity in the community."
