Hagan Contrasts Persona, GOP In NC Senate Campaign

Kay Hagan considers herself a middle-of-the-road U.S. senator who fights for the middle class and responds effectively to constituent requests.

That may sound like a trite political statement, but the North Carolina Democrat believes that's what voters wanted when they elected her in 2008 and prefer again this year as they decide whether she gets a second term.

Hagan first has her own primary next month, but her nomination is all but secure.

Hagan believes her persona contrasts starkly with what she call extreme policies Republicans want to give the nation and gave North Carolina the past few years.

She's developed a campaign strategy that attempts to link national politics with Republican policies in Raleigh. That's important because state House Speaker Thom Tillis is running for the GOP nomination.
