Greenville Undercover Operations Lead To Charges

Undercover operations by police in one city in the east lead to two weapons charges.

Greenville police say they have charged 21-year-old Timothy Jones with carrying a concealed weapon and Jarrett Gray with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Greenville police say in an effort to deter and prevent crimes around the university area, Greenville police officers have been conducting undercover surveillance operations throughout the university and Tar River neighborhoods, especially after downtown bars close, when many students may be walking in the areas.

On early Sunday morning between 2-3 am, they say they observed a white Ford Crown Vic riding slowly in the area of Summit and East 3rd. St. They say the car circle the area numerous times. The officers saw the car pull up behind students who were walking in the area and began to stop.

Lawmen report upon approach to the car a box of open ammunition was in plain view in the back seat. They say the driver and passenger were removed from the car and a .22 caliber revolver was found.
