Police have arrested a man for lying about him being robbed this weekend.
John Yelton told Greenville police he was walking through the 5 Points parking lot uptown when he was robbed at knifepoint. The robbery allegedly happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
After reviewing surveillance cameras, and finding no evidence of a crime, detectives spoke with Yelton again. They say he admitted it never happened.
The 26-year-old man was charged with making a false armed robbery report and turned himself in on Wednesday. He was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.
Police say there was no photo taken of the man since he immediately posted bond.
