A crime fighting husband and wife from Greenville have been awarded the first crisis intervention team officers of the year award in the state.
Corporal Cathy Williams and her husband Lieutenant Carlton Williams of the Greenville Police Department, received the awards for their dedication to increasing the number of officers trained in crisis intervention team training.
The two are also being credited for their dedication to opening the lines of communication between law enforcement and the mentally ill.
Lt. Williams was also recognized for his work with angel cops.
The award was presented by the North Carolina Chapter of National Alliance on Mental Illness.
