Greenville Moped Driver Charged With DWI After Crashing Into Trailer

Greenville Police say 25-year-old Jerome Hufford of Greenville is charged with Driving While Impaired after he crashed his moped into the back of a utility trailer being hauled by a truck on Firetower Road Wednesday night. Police responded to the wreck about 8:10 p.m. which clogged traffic at Tower Place near Wimbledon Drive for about an hour.

GPD officer Jodie Cobb says Hufford was taken to Vidant Medical Center with possible head trauma and was in stable condition late Wednesday night. He says Hufford was wearing a helmet.

Cob says the pickup driver said he was going slow and ended up stopping because of mechanical problems. Cobb says witnesses say the moped driver tried to go around the trailer and didn't make it and he was jammed under his moped.
