Greensboro police are continuing a program in which local residents are turning in their guns and ammunition at area churches.
The News & Record of Greensboro reports that the campaign continues Saturday at three churches. Hundreds of rounds of ammunition and at least seven guns were turned in on Friday.
Master Officer Steve Roberts said police would rather people surrender their weapons than leave it around the house and not keep up with it.
Gun owners 18 years and older can turn in any unwanted handguns, rifles, shotguns or ammunition anonymously. The weapons will not be returned.
The campaign was the idea of former police officer and City Councilwoman T. Dianne Bellamy-Small in response to the shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Connecticut last month.
