Governor McCrory Signs Executive Order To Support West Virginia

Governor Pat McCrory has signed an executive order supporting movement of humanitarian relief to West Virginia following a chemical spill that's left the water for 300,000 people in nine counties contaminated.

Governor McCrory says, "This afternoon I waived the size and weight restrictions for trucks so we could expedite delivery of water, equipment and supplies to help our neighbors in West Virginia while they recover from the chemical spill. Regardless of the type of disaster, North Carolina stands ready to help our neighboring states in whatever way we can."

The company at the center of the spill says it has removed the rest of the foaming agent from its plant in Charleston to prevent any more from escaping. Freedom Industries doesn't know how much of the chemical spilled into the Elk River.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says it will deliver more than a million liters of bottled water from nearby Maryland.
