RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Gov. Beverly Perdue is requesting assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration for Dare County to help residents who suffered damage from Hurricane Sandy.
The SBA can provide low-interest loans to storm victims if the federal government grants Perdue's request. The SBA provides low-interest loans to homeowners, renters and businesses that suffer storm damage.
SBA staff and emergency management teams surveyed damage last week in the hardest hit areas, looking at more than 80 homes and businesses in Dare County. That survey is the first step in determining what areas qualify for funding assistance from the state and/or federal government.
Perdue also is expected to make a state disaster declaration for individual assistance, which allows storm victims to seek state funds.
Hurricane Sandy moved through North Carolina Oct. 27-30.
