For 20 years Greenville Utilities has offered senior citizens some relief from the summer heat even for people without air conditioning.
Tuesday GUC donated 50 fans to the Pitt County Council On Aging and 50 more to the county Social Services Department to help people who can not afford air conditioning during hot summer months. A spokesperson for the Council On Aging says because the heat hasn't been too extreme this year, the number of requests for fans has been fewer than last year, but that's expected to change soon.
Residents interested in a fan must come in and apply at the Council On Aging building on County Home Road. Only residents who do not have an air conditioner and who did not get a fan from the program last year are eligible.
