Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas is urging people to pray for the four people who were shot at Walmart and in front of Kellum Law Firm today.
"At this moment, we have injured people at Vidant Medical Center. I would ask everyone to give thanks for their safety, and the safety of the city, and to pray for the individuals recovery," Mayor Thomas said.
Thomas said he was about a half-mile from where the gunman opened fire, and he credits law enforcement's quick response for preventing the situation from being worse than it was.
"They took charge and brought the individual down," Thomas said. "All details lead to this being a troubled individual."
A source tells WITN the gunman survived getting shot by officers and was in surgery at the hospital.
"This is a sad and tragic event," Thomas said. "We try to move forward and come together with some answers."
