POLICE: Fort Bragg Soldier Charged After 4-Year-Old Son Finds Gun, Shoots & Kills Self

A 4-year-old boy from Fayetteville is dead after police say he got a hold of a loaded gun kept in his home.

The boy's father, Jeffrey Perez, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to secure a firearm.

Officials say they got the call to the home around 10:43 Saturday morning.

Fayetteville Police say that Perez is a soldier stationed at Fort Bragg.

Authorities said the boy located and retrieved a handgun that was loaded and stored on the top of a refrigerator. The child was able to manipulate the handgun and shot himself.
