Former High School Teacher Arrested After Botched Inauguration Field Trip

A former high school teacher has been arrested after police say she pocketed money from students who wanted to attend the president's inauguration.

Kinston police arrested Amanda Grady on Monday, charging her with obtaining property by false pretense.

The 32-year-old Grady was a teacher at Kinston High School, and school officials say she resigned after they found out about the field trip to Washington, D.C. that was never approved.

Each student paid $300 in advance for the trip, but the school system says some of that money was not returned. Police say the former teacher converted $1,450 in the student's money for her own use.

The school system says Grady was a social studies teacher at Kinston for just over a year.

The Kinston woman was jailed on a $10,000 bond.
