Former ECU Officer Cleared Of Charges

A former ECU police officer accused of groping a student has been found not guilty by a Pitt County judge.

On Friday judge Joseph Blick heard arguments from both sides and determined 50-year-old Clifton Griffin did not commit the crime he was accused of back in April.

Greenville police arrested Griffin after a female student claimed he grabbed her on her backside, put his tongue down her throat, and put his hand inside her bra.

The university says he was not on duty at the time of the time of the reported incident.

Griffin was placed on paid administrative leave and later dismissed from his job, due to what the university called unacceptable personal conduct.
