A former bail bondsman from New Bern is behind bars after deputies say he kidnapped and extorted money from a Pitt County man.
Deputies have charged Terrence Holloway with second degree kidnapping, extortion and attempt to obtain property by false pretense.
Investigators say back in November Holloway transported the victim from Pitt County to another county, then two days later he returned the man and placed him in the Pitt County Detention Center. Deputies say this all happened when Holloway's bail bondman license had been suspended for approximately a year.
The victim told deputies that Holloway was demanding more money than the original bond or he would be placed in jail. They say that's why Holloway was charged with extortion and kidnapping.
The 55 year old Holloway was jailed on a $210,000 bond.
