Heavy showers and some thunderstorms continue to cause flooding along area rivers. The Neuse River in Kinston is experiencing minor flooding. The flood stage is 14 feet. The river is currently at 16.5 feet and is likely to stay in that range into the middle of next week. It would need to reach 18 feet for moderate flooding. Contentnea Creek near Hookerton is seeing minor flooding as well. The flood stage there is 13 feet and it is currently at 13.9 feet. Moderate flooding begins at 16 feet.
Additional flooding is possible over the next few days as the showers continue. Around 2 to 3 inches of rain is possible along the river basins during the next 48 hours. An update on flooding will be released on Friday.
