Fishermen Forced To Leave Cape Lookout

The National Park Service has forced everyone off of Cape Lookout National Seashore following the government shutdown.

Folks from the Davis Shore Ferry Service tell us more than 100 fishermen were on the island fishing for the annual "Running of the Red Fish."

The fishermen were told Tuesday at noon they had to leave.

Ferry owners tell us they were bringing people back until 9:00 Tuesday night, and started again Wednesday morning.

The ferry can only hold so many vehicles, but finally finished escorting people off Wednesday morning at 11:00.

Passenger and car ferry operators have been told by the National Park Service not to ferry anyone to the island until the government shutdown is over.
