UPDATE: Vigil For Fatal Hit & Run Victim

The family of Austin Baeza is desperate for answers about who hit and killed their loved one with a vehicle last month in Greenville.

A vigil took place at 7 p.m. Thursday at the crash site on Highway 33 in Greenville near the intersection of North Memorial Drive in honor of Baeza, a 20 year old killed after getting hit by a car whose driver left him for dead.

The Highway Patrol says they are looking for an older model gray Chrysler vehicle, possibly a Dodge or Jeep. It would have right-side damage and missing a right-side mirror and antenna, along with a broken right-side headlight.

The Highway Patrol says they are continuing to investigate who hit a 20 year old this weekend and drove away from the scene, leaving the young man for dead. Troopers say they now have a possible description of the vehicle.

The Medical Examiner confirmed Monday that Austin Baeza of Mooresville died as a result of the hit and run, according to the Highway Patrol. Baeza, who moved to Greenville two weeks ago, was found dead off Highway 33 near the intersection of North Memorial Drive Saturday morning.

Troopers are investigating a fatal hit & run in Pitt County after a body was found off Highway 33 near the intersection of North Memorial Drive Saturday morning.

Troopers say a person was walking along Highway 33 heading to the store when they discovered the body. That person then called authorities.

Troopers have identified the victim as 20-year-old Austin Baeza of Mooresville, NC. They say Baeza just moved to Greenville two weeks ago with his girlfriend.

They believe Baeza was hit by a vehicle around 5 a.m. The vehicle then took off. There was debris from a vehicle along the road.

Troopers say they have no suspects at this time.
