A Charlotte man and Whispering Pines woman are being hailed as champions of the first marathon to wind through Fayetteville and Fort Bragg.
The Fayetteville Observer reports (http://bit.ly/Sp826i ) that 34-year-old Masashi Shirotake of Charlotte won Sunday's All American Marathon in just seconds over 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Boston Marathon winner Meb Keflezighi was on hand to congratulate Shirotake, who is originally from Japan.
Tana Kornachuk of Whispering Pines was the top female finisher. The 34-year-old had winning time of 3 hours and 16 minutes.
A total of 3,700 runners from 48 states and five countries participated in races of various lengths on Sunday.
