Fatal Accident In Martin County

The Highway Patrol says a woman chasing after a dog was hit and killed by a car when she ran out into the road in Williamston.

Sgt. Gary Weaver says the accident was called in at 2:48 p.m. Friday afternoon. It happened on Bear Trap Road. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials have not yet identified the victim but say that she was 40-years-old. Both the driver of the car and the victim live in the area.

A witness told WITN the victim ran out into the road without looking for traffic.

The crash is under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time. The driver of the car was not injured.
