It's Breast Cancer Awareness month, and while we're seeing pink all over, some East Carolina University students had the chance Monday night to hear about one family's first hand experience with the disease.
On Monday night at the Hendrix Auditorium on ECU's campus, the family of Kim Sibbach told their story. Kim was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2008 while she was still a student at ECU. In April of 2011, she passed away. Her sister says raising awareness is what Kim wanted them to do.
"If we can save one person's life it's worth it. That means Kim meant something to someone and she helped save someone, and that's very important," said Kim;s sister Stacy Sibbach.
The family urges the ECU community to get regular breast exams, and to do self-examinations to help detect any signs of cancer as early as possible.
