Local firefighters spent two hours fighting a house fire near Kinston, and the weather was a complicating factor.
North Lenoir Fire and Rescue was called to 2157 Crescent Drive, just west of Kinston, around 8 p.m. Tuesday. Flames were shooting out of the chimney and attic, and there was a lot of smoke, according to Chris Decker, the public information officer for North Lenoir Fire and Rescue.
Everyone inside the home escaped safely, and none of the 21 firefighters who responded were injured. The damage to the single-story home is extensive.
Decker says the bad weather, icy roads and high winds made their job even more difficult.
Hugo Fire and Rescue and the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office assisted in the response.
