Hundreds of people from Cypress Landing and the Washington Yacht and Country Club held a walk Thursday night at Cypress Landing to raise money for the Shepard Cancer Foundation which supports the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.
In addition to the walk, the golfing communities held a raffle, sold bows, and will have a golf tournament this Saturday.
It's expected the events will raise more than $70,000.
We're told they raised more than $18,000 just selling bows that are hanging up around Beaufort County.
All of the funds raised stay right here in the local community.
The Shepard Cancer Foundation supports the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center in its efforts to improve the mind, body and spirit of cancer patients, survivors and caregivers by offering supportive services, complementary therapies and educational programs.
The Foundation also provides financial assistance to patients who may have become financially burdened by their cancer diagnosis.
These services are available to any cancer patient regardless if they are being treated at the local center.
