Emerald Isle Bridge Construction Has Some Waiting 45-Minutes

Monday crews started closing down a lane of the Emerald Isle bridge 24-7 to try and get construction work done before tourist season.

But some commuters say replacing bridge joints and resurfacing the bridge decking has had them waiting in traffic for up to 45-minutes.

Crews say one lane of the bridge will be closed 24-7, including weekends, through March 8th.

That 24-7 closure is expected to continue through march 8th. The DOT says all work will be finished by May 23rd and will extend the life of the bridge by 30 to 40-years.

The DOT says both lanes will be open 24 hours a day for the Saint Patrick's Festival weekend.
