Elizabeth City Police Searching For Hit And Run Suspect

Elizabeth City Police say that they are searching for a woman who witnesses say struck a man with her vehicle and left the scene.

Police say they received a call around 2 p.m. Sunday from Deborah Banks who said she was being harassed by 54-year-old William Burnham. During that call, dispatchers say the heard and argument between Banks and an unknown person following by what sounded like a vehicle accident.

Officers responded to Riverside Avenue where they say they found Burnham lying in a yard. Witnesses tell police that Banks struck Burnham with her vehicle before leaving the scene.

Warrants have been obtained for Banks who is facing assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury, felony hit and run, failure to report an accident that resulted in injury, communicating threats and injury to real property.

Burnham was transported to Albemarle Hospital with what is believed to be a fractured pelvis. He was later transported to Norfolk General.
