Elizabeth City Helicopter Crew Rescues Three Off Virginia Island

A helicopter crew from Elizabeth City rescued three people off a barrier island in Virginia Sunday night.

The Coast Guard says a mother, her daughter, and the daughter's friend were lost and disoriented on Hog Island.

The mother's boyfriend contacted the Coast Guard around 8:00 p.m. Sunday and asked for help.

A MH-60 Jayhawk from Elizabeth City located the trio around 9:30 p.m. A Coast Guard swimmer was lowered, and the mother and two girls were hoisted onto the chopper. The three were taken to an airport in Accomack County.
