Eastern Carolina Restaurant Owner Builds Doomsday Fort

An Eastern Carolina restaurant owner is ready for anything to happen...from hurricanes and tornadoes to attacks from EMPs. Yes, Derek Price has built a fortress that he says can withstand an attack from electromagnetic pulse radiation.

It's all next to the Deadwood Steakhouse Restaurant in Bear Grass. His 1500 square foot building will be featured tonight on the National Geographic Channel's reality show "Doomsday Preppers".

Price's doomsday fort is full of secret tunnels and passageways. One leads to a wishing well on the property that you could use to sneak up on an attacker.

The fort was originally built as a storage building for his restaurant, but has since taken on a life of its own with 8-inch thick concrete walls, reinforced with steel rebar. A steel reinforced door even provides access to the roof where several cannons are located. Price and his dad, Ira, have been building the fort for a couple of years.

It resembles The Alamo, to fit in the western-style theme at Deadwood.

The crew from National Geographic spent several days at Deadwood this past summer. The segment airs Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m.
