ENC Travelers React To Relaxed TSA Security Measures

For the first time since 9/11, travelers are going to be able to bring small knives onto airplanes.

The Transportation Security Administration announced the new relaxed rules will go into effect starting on April 25th.

Any knife with a blade less than 2.36 inches long, and less than half an inch wide will be allowed through security.

Ski poles, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks and two golf clubs will also be permitted.

We spoke with travelers at the Pitt Greenville Airport for their reaction to the new rules. Debbie Lanier said, "I guess I'm a little shocked. I know it's just a small pocket knife, but a knife is still a knife. And although you probably couldn't take over a whole plane, you could still hurt somebody with it."

Traveler Mark Patt said, "I don't have a problem with it. I think there's more than enough people on a plane that if somebody got up and started causing a raucous, somebody else is gonna put them down."

Pitt-Greenville Airport Director Jerry Vickers says he agrees with the T.S.A.'s decision, because they can focus their efforts on preventing higher threat items, like explosives, from getting through security.
