ENC Military Members Reflect On Navy Yard Shooting

The deadly shooting at the Washington Navy Yard hits very close to home for our local military.

Retired Marine Roosevelt Carr says it's on days like this that he's grateful for all of the security at Camp Lejeune, even though it can mean a hassle for Marines and Sailors to get on base.

Carr says, "A lot of folks I talk to in this area are always complaining about the fact that the base isn't as accessible as it once was, and this is all the more reason why the security should be heightened in the fashion that it is today because of what happened at the Navy Yard.

Marine Claudio Ayala says, "They're pretty stringent about anybody that doesn't have some kind of verification."

Roosevelt says he isn't surprised by the shooting in Washington D.C. He says, "Once upon a time I would have said yes, but in this day and age, no not really. Anything is possible today."

Roosevelt says, "You just have to be aware of everything that is going on."
