ECU says it's official...Danny Webster is off the football team.

"Because of the history involved with Danny, we really do not have any other option than to dismiss him from the team," Coach Ruffin McNeill said. "Our top priority is to remain consistent with values that define the foundation of our program and with that comes a level of accountability."

This morning, the News & Observer quoted McNeill saying the wide receiver was off the team. But Assistant Athletics Director Tom McClellan told WITN he didn't not know where the Raleigh newspaper got that information from, saying no formal decision or statement had been made.

The news release confirming Webster's departure was sent out around 4:20 p.m.

Earlier this month, the Havelock native was pulled over by a Greenville police officer around 1 a.m. on a Saturday and charged with a DWI.

Police said the arresting officer tried several times to get a breathalyzer test from Webster, but ultimately opted to get a search warrant for blood to be drawn.

Webster had already been suspended indefinitely from the team in October for a violation of team rules.

He had 18 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown in the first 5 games of the 2013 season.
