ECU Wins National Community Engagement Award

East Carolina University has been honored for its work in underserved parts of Greenville.

The university received the prestigious C. Peter McGrath University Community Engagement Award.

ECU and the College of Human Ecology received the award and a $20,000 stipend for its support of the Lucille W. Gorham Intergenerational Community Center, and their partnership with West Greenville residents.

The award recognizes impacts in the community like the youth apprentice program, which prepares juvenile offenders to continue their secondary education and a summer program designed to improve math and reading skills of third through fifth graders which has been highly successful.
