An ECU organization that serves those in need says it now needs your help.
ECU's Campus Kitchen is competing in a national fundraiser known as Raise the Dough. The university is competing against 18 others. They only have one week left to reach their goal.
The Campus Kitchen takes food that would be wasted and donates it every week to the Little Willie Center, Operation Sunshine, the Ronald McDonald House and the Joy Soup Kitchen.
ECU Campus Kitchen Manager Anna Cooper says ECU donates about 175 meals each week.
Cooper says, "I really get a sense of satisfaction here. When you look at the kids and see how happy they are and see that they actually have a meal to eat, that's beautiful."
That's why Cooper feels the Raise the Dough fundraiser is so important. Cooper says it would help ECU raise money, but also awareness of hunger issues.
Campus Kitchen Coordinator Teresa Dantzler says they need the money to buy pantry supplies and also food.
Dantzler says, "We also could just use the money to implement new programming, such as nutrition programming."
While ECU's goal is to raise $500, they are also competing with 18 other universities for a top prize of $1,000. The winner is based on who raises the most money overall.
