ECSU Gets New Police Chief

A familiar face to law enforcement in Eastern Carolina will keep his temporary job as chief of one university's police department.

Elizabeth City State University announced Thursday that John Manley, who has served as interim chief since May, will take on the job full time.

Manly, who retired in 2011 as Rocky Mount's police chief, also served as interim chief for the Elizabeth City Police Department from May to December of 2012.

He replaces Sam Beamon who was placed on administrative leave on April 25th and later resigned.

At the time, the university police department was under SBI investigation after allegations arose of obstruction of justice and witness intimidation at ECSU.
