Duplin County Scam Victim Gets Money Back In Time For Christmas

A Hurricane Irene victim scammed out of thousands of dollars from a man who took his money but didn't clear trees as promised has that money back just in time for Christmas.

In mid October we told you about Frankie Johns, a man police told us was from Florida, but was scamming locals in Beulaville and Kinston. Victims say they'd reach a deal about tree removal, give Johns a down payment in good faith, then he never showed up.

But for one Beulaville victim the case is now closed thanks to Police Chief Joey Carter. Carter says Johns was picked up in Florida. Police and prosecutors agreed to drop charges if Johns made full restitution to Jaime Arriaga. Wednesday Carter delivered money orders in the amount of $2,500 to Arriaga from Johns.

Arriaga says he is very happy and now has some Christmas shopping to do.
