Two local schools were put on lockdown as deputies chased a drug suspect who fled from a traffic stop.

The Dare County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit tried to stop Gregory Wynn Jr. on Highway 64/264 near the Roanoke Island Fire Department as part of a drug investigation on December 14th.

Wynn fled on foot as officers stopped him. He took off in the direction of Manteo High School, requiring a short lockdown of the high school and Manteo Middle School for precautionary reasons.

The 36-year-old was eventually caught and cocaine was recovered.

Wynn is charged with Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Cocaine, Felony Possession of Cocaine and Possession of a Controlled Substance within 1,000 feet of a School.

He was released in lieu of $25,000 bond.
