NEW INFO: ECSU Administrator Killed In Bertie County Wreck

Elizabeth City State University's chancellor is asking for thoughts and prayer for the family of one of their administrators, who was killed in a Monday morning wreck with an 18-wheeler.

Chancellor Charles Becton said Myron Burney, the university's Interim Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management was the man killed in the Monday morning wreck.

Troopers said around 8:40 a.m. Burney's car ran underneath an 18-wheeler along U.S. 17 near the intersection with Highway 45, northeast of Windsor.

Burney died as a result of the wreck.

"Please keep Myron's family in your prayers and thoughts. Death diminishes us all," wrote Chancellor Becton. "Myron's death is a tragic loss for his family, the ECSU community, and human kind. "

Troopers said they are still working to determine if Burney or the truck driver had the light in his favor.

Troopers are looking for witnesses in a crash that killed a Raleigh man this morning in Bertie County.

The accident happened around 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 17 and Highway 45.

Trooper J.V. Reid says Myron Burney of Raleigh was killed at the scene after his car went underneath the trailer of an 18-wheeler, continued down U.S. 17 and struck some trees.

Reid says the tractor trailer, driven by Robert Peele of Washington, was heading down Highway 45, while the intersection is controlled by a traffic light.

The Highway Patrol is looking for witnesses to see which vehicle had the light in their favor.

Authorities are investigating a deadly vehicle accident Monday morning in Eastern Carolina.

The Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 8:40 a.m. on U.S. 17 and Highway 45, northeast of Windsor.
