Ayden Man Found With Missing 14-Year-Old Girl In Nevada

A 14-year-old runaway girl from Eastern Carolina was found Thursday in Nevada with an Ayden man who is now facing charges.

Last week we told you about Shelby Kelly of Vance County who hadn't been seen for over a month. Deputies thought the teen might be with 49-year-old Jerry Coburn of Ayden, who was wanted for outstanding warrants.

Vance County says the two were found in Churchill County, Nevada, which is east of Reno.

Deputies say they were in a stolen vehicle from Emerald Isle, its license plates replaced with ones from Arizona while the girl had cut and dyed her hair in an attempt to change her appearance.

Coburn is facing charges in Vance County for felonious restraint and contributing to the delinquency of a minor for a previous case, as well as forgery and uttering charges from Ayden police. The man is facing additional charges in both Vance County and Emerald Isle after he is brought back to face charges.

Kelly is safe and deputies say they are making arrangements for her to return to North Carolina. The girl used to live in Ayden, according to deputies.

Vance County deputies say Shelby Kelly hasn't been seen in over a month. They believe the 14-year-old is in the company of Jerry Coburn of Ayden.

Deputies say the teen moved from Pitt County this summer and was living with her father in Henderson when she ran away. The 49-year-old Coburn has outstanding warrants in both Vance County and Ayden. His last possible location was Emerald Isle.
