The Dare County Courthouse and Sheriff's Office were evacuated Tuesday morning after a bomb threat, but no explosive device was found and no one has been arrested. The Sheriff's Office says about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday an attorney’s office received a phone call indicating there was an explosive device in the Dare County Justice Center in Manteo.

Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard says a bomb
sniffing dog from the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office checked the building for a device, made sure the building was safe, and court sessions resumed. Hoggard says the dog alerted on a vehicle in the rear parking lot and the lot was cleared out and sealed off until State Bureau of Investigation Bomb Squad agents and members of the Norfolk, Virginia Police Department Bomb Squad arrived to do a sweep of the vehicle and contents. No evidence of an explosive device was found. The vehicle was released and the parking lot reopened.

No suspects have been identified.
