With rain changing over to snow and temperatures remaining well below freezing, Department of Transportation crews will be working to keep the roads as safe as possible.
Because it will be raining and switching over to snow, DOT crews say they have to wait for the rain to stop before they can start salting the roads.
We checked in with crews at the Department of Transportation in Pitt County.
Maintenance engineer Jeremy Stroud says the roads will remain a concern even after the snow stops. He says, "The temperatures tomorrow after the event are going to be so low that it could cause freezing, you know and some black ice to occur in some different areas and that's really what we want to try to get ahead of."
The DOT & NC Highway Patrol urge extra caution if you have to be on the roads.
