Arrests Made In Weyerhaeuser Mugging

Three people have been arrested for the mugging of one member of a prominent New Bern family.

John Weyerhaeuser told police that Memorial Day night he was struck by a man who took his money and credit cards at Union Point Park.

New Bern police have charged Joshua Matthews of Bridgeton with common law robbery, conspiracy to commit common law robbery, two counts of obtaining property by false pretense and one count of attempted obtain property by false pretenses.

Also arrested was Ioma Smith of New Bern with common law robbery, and conspiracy.

A third person, Jaevon Little, was charged with obtaining property by false pretense and two counts of attempted obtaining property by false pretense.

Police say additional charges against Little are pending.

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying two men possibly connected to the mugging of a member of a prominent New Bern family.

John Weyerhaeuser told police that Memorial Day night he was struck by a man who took his money and credit cards at Union Point Park.

Police say the two men in the pictures attempted to his a credit card taken from Weyerhaeuser.

Several people have expressed concern about safety in the park since the attack. But police say so far this year they have received reports of just two incidents at Union Point, which includes the one on Monday. Last year police say there were five incidents, and in 2011 there were three.
