Concern Over Daycare Funding Cuts In The East

Moms, dads, and grandparents in the east say they're very concerned about having child care available for their kids.

The latest cuts put 7 to 9 year olds at risk for daycare eligibility.

Already the centers have experienced cuts in transportation funding, registration and enrollment coverage for certain parents, and the removal of 10 to 12 year olds from eligibility.

On Monday night in Greenville, center directors and parents spoke in front of elected officials and government administrators about the struggles these working parents face when they don't have anywhere for their kids to go.

Sandra Ebron is a concerned grandparent and says, "They're saying the ABC's, they're counting, they're doing a great job so why would you cut funding for the daycare? Cut another area but not daycare when it's a learning center for the kids."

The latest cut in funds from the federal government for Pitt County is $365,000.
