Coast Guard Helping Navigate Substitute Ferry Route

While the Hatteras-Ocracoke Ferry was suspended in mid-January for severe shoaling, now the Coast Guard is helping the state dig their way out of a transportation problem.

On Tuesday, the Coast Guard started putting up temporary navigation aids for a substitute route for the ferry.

The Coast Guard said they will place 14 navigational aids, marking a temporary channel until the regular route is dredged and navigable.

The original route work is scheduled to be finished by March 31st.
